By the expensive cities we mean the cost of living in a city. Here we have a list of Five Most Expensive Cities in the World in 2012. The data given here is based on the Economist Intelligence Unit Worldwide Cost of Living Survey.
1. Zurich, Switzerland
For the first time in last two decades, one of the most beautiful Swiss cities, Zurich, takes the first spot in list of Five Most Expensive Cities in the World in 2012. The spot was previously occupied by Tokyo, who secured it for almost twenty years. Zurich- which was sitting at fourth position last year- had a swing of 34% points and jumped up two figures to become worldâs most expensive city. Its index score is 170 and it is seventy percent more expensive than NY.
2. Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo, the capital of Japan which managed to secure first spot for last two decades, is on second position this year. Its score is 166 and itâs 66 percent more expensive than NY. Tokyo is also one of the most populous cities of the world. Moreover, it posses best urban agglomeration economy in the world.
3. Osaka, Japan
One more Japanese city that has managed to secure a place on the list of top five most expensive cities in the world in 2012 is Osaka. If you put Tokyo and Osaka side by side, you wonât see any major cost difference. Osaka too is a very expensive city and itâs just because the Japanese currency is too strong and hence when you want living in a Japanese city, you surely need to pay some price.
4. Geneva, Switzerland
Down to the rise of thirty percentage points, Geneva rose from 9th to 4th place this year. This major rise is largely because of its strong currency. It is worldâs 13th most important financial center. The Swiss city is ranked third in terms of larger cities which offer you a quality life, hence, when you want to live there, youâll definitely have to pay the price.
5. Oslo, Norway
The fifth spot on the list of five most expensive cities in the world in 2012 is occupied by the capital city of Norway, Oslo. It was ranked as the third most expensive city last year. Its current index score is 156 and it is fifty-six percent more costly than NY. Oslo is the most heavily populated city of Norway and is highly important from economic, social, governmental and cultural point of views. It offers the first highest Quality of living in a big city.
