Top Five Lies of Science Taught at School

The hypnotic discoveries of science are just countless. Science has today explored our earth and even the outer space for us and we’re enjoying learning about the universe. Beside all the marvelous inventions and disclosures, there were lies behind some of the stories we had learnt at school level. Here is a list of top five lies of science taught at school.

1.        Newton Discovered Law of Gravitation After an Apple Fell on His Head

Most of us believe that Isaac Newton discovered the law of gravitation after getting an apple fallen on his head. This is because we have been told the story this ways. But the reality is that this story wasn’t mentioned by Newton himself and it came into existence after several year of the discovery of law of gravitation.  So, this story is the biggest of top five lies of science taught at school.

2.       Seasons Change Because of Earth’s Closeness to Sun

Another wrong myth all of us learnt at school level is that earth’s closeness to the sun causes seasons to change from summer to fall or so. In fact, recent research has proved that distance from the sun doesn’t have any sort of effects on earth’s climate. Seasons actually change because of the change in our planet’s angle on its axis. Earth receives more radiation from sun when it is oriented perpendicular to sunlight which causes the change in seasons.

3.       Black Hole Sucks All Matters in Environs

While speaking about the black hole, teachers used to mention that black hole sucks all the matter in environment. They also had set a fab image of black hole which they show us while discussing black hole.  This’ a contrary image of black hole, in fact. The biggest reason for this misconception is presence of strong gravitational force in this region. No doubt, the region has the ability to suck matters but not certainly all of them.

4.       The Great Wall of China is visible from moon

Another interesting story narrated in many books I read in the school is that Great Wall of China is visible from moon. This myth, however, has never been verified by Apollo cosmonauts or by earth orbiting cosmonauts. There is actually no glimpse of the Great Wall of China in the photos taken from outside the earth. Our planet’s only thing which is visible from space is the look of city lights.

5.       Eight Glasses of Water Daily are Essential for Life

Of course, the importance of water for a healthy skin and body can’t be overlooked anyway, but it’s not necessary to intake eight glasses of water per day.  For keeping our bodies well hydrate, we can consume anything other than water that can satisfy our needs, such as fruits, vegetable and juices etc. In many situations it is noticed that people lived without drinking water for several months.
