Top Five Tallest Buildings In the World 2012


The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat announces the list of “The Worlds Tallest Building” on yearly basis. The list comprises world’s 100 tallest completed buildings. The current list issued by the council ranks Burj Khalifa as the tallest building on the earth. Below is a detailed list of Top Five Tallest Buildings In the World 2012.


 


1. Burj Khalifa


Burj Khalifa or Burj Dubai is the tallest freestanding structure ever built, at 828 m (2,723 ft). Construction of this magnificent building was started in year 2004 and external of the structure completed on Oct. 1st, 2009. The building was officially opened in 2010. The cost of Burj Dubai project was almost 1.5 million US bucks. The 167-storey high tower has returned the location of World’s tallest skyscraper to the Middle East where the Great Pyramids claimed this feat for almost 4000 years before being outshined by Lincoln Cathedral in England in 1311.


 


2. Taipei 101


Located in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan, Taipei 101 is the second tallest building on the earth so far. Its construction was started in 1999 and completed in 2004. The building, also know as Taipei Financial Center, was ranked the tallest building in the world before being surpassed by the Burj Dubai in 2010. The cost of its construction was $1.76 billion. The building was hailed as one of the Seven Wonders of Engineering by the Discovery channel in year 2005 and as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World by Newsweek magazine in year 2006. Moreover, it was also awarded LEED Platinum certification in July 2011.


 


3. Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower


Third on the list of top five tallest buildings in the world 2012 is Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower. It’s a building multiplex in Mecca, Saudi Arabia which holds many world records, such as the tallest clock tower in the world, the tallest hotel in the world, the world’s largest building floor area and the world’s largest clock face. Total height of this 120-story tower is 601 m (1,972 ft).


 


4. Shanghai World Financial Center


The fourth tallest building in the world is Shanghai World Financial Center. This supertall skyscraper is situated in Pudong, Shanghai, China and is the depiction of the advent of modern era in Asian continent. This 492 meter high building features admirable urban shopping-malls, five-star hotel, offices, conference rooms and observation decks. Its construction was started in 1997 and completed in 2008. It’s construction cost was almost $1.2 million.


5. The International Commerce Centre


The International Commerce Centre is holding the last spot on the top five tallest buildings in the world 2012 list. It’s a 108-floor, 484 m high skyscraper that was completed in 2010. The tower was officially opened in 2011.
