Ranking Sites with Little On Site Content

So the other day we posted a video showing a site ranking for a search term with over 22k searches per month in days with little more than a picture, a title and a link.  Today we are going to revisit that same trend as we see three different sites rank for highly competitive keyword phrases, all with the same setup.

Now I don’t subscribe to the notion presented in this video that you do not need quality content on your site.  In fact, if you listen and watch the whole video, you will see that this guy agrees – if you are going to maintain your rankings for the long haul you do need onsite content, but that onsite content does not have to meet all the criteria we have been told it must meet.  Minimum words on the page, keyword density, things like that seem to be declining factors for ranking well.  Instead, some very basic ideas along with proper linking can get your site to the top of Google very quickly.

One strategy that is employed in this video that I believe strongly in is the link out to an authority source.  This contradicts what many people believe – that you should not link out from your site.  It is commonly thought to devalue your own site, as you are bleeding link juice to an external site.  By linking out to an authority site, however, you are giving your own site credibility.  This is a small change that could be implemented very easily on your existing sites right now.

So what we are being told here is that high Google rankings can be achieved with some basic on site optimization, including a proper title, a picture with proper labeling and a link out to an authority site.  In addition, it only takes a couple decent PR incoming links, not hundreds or thousands, to make this technique work.  If you are looking to rank well using this method, this is a great place to find some quality high PR sites to get links
