1. Leonardo da Vinci


Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian painter of Renaissance period when the European world was undergoing a change. While Leonardo’s expansive artistic repertoire included sculpture, music, cartography and even anatomy and writing, he was and is famous primarily as a painter. The painting of Mona Lisa is the most famous painting he ever created, and in fact, it is the work which earned him fame as a painter across the globe. Several of his paintings were reproduced over the time with The Last Supper and the Vitruvian Man as most reproduced works.


2. Vincent Van Gogh


Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch painter who’s panting left far reaching influence on the art of 20th century. While he started drawing in his childhood, he didn’t begin painting until late 20s. In his 37-year life, he produced over 2,100 artworks wherein 860 were oil paintings. His work was famous for bold colors, rough beauty and emotional honesty.


3. Salvador Dalí


Third of the top five most famous painters of all tie is Salvador Dalí, a prominent Spanish surrealist painter who is famous for the striking and inexplicable images in his surrealist work. His best known work, The Persistence of Memory, was accomplished in 1931. Besides being a renowned painter, Dalí’s was sculptor and photographer as well and had managed to prove his iron in a variety of media too. He passed away in the year 1989 at the age of 85.


4. Pablo Picasso


Pablo Picasso, a Spanish painter, printmaker, sculptor, stage designer and ceramicist, was one of the most famous and influential artists of the 20th century. The services which earned Picasso a worldwide fame include co-foundation of the Cubist movement, the creation of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, plus variety of styles that he developed and explored. Some of his finest works include the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, and Guernica, a depiction of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.


5. Rembrandt van Rijn


And finally, the last renowned painter on our list of top five most famous painters of all times is Rembrandt van Rijn. Born and raised in the Dutch Republic, Rembrandt was very prolific and innovative. In his artworks he demonstrated knowledge of classical iconography, which he shaped to suit the requirements of his own experience.
