Top Five Male Tennis Players in ATP Rankings


During the tennis season, the ATP World Tour weekly releases a new list of player’s rankings, based on the performance in the past 52 weeks. Let’s find out who are the Top Five Male Tennis Players in ATP Rankings, according to this week’s rankings.


1. Roger Federer



Roger Federer leads the list of “top five male tennis players in ATP rankings” with 11805 points, including 3800 Grand Slam points, 4405 Masters 1000 Points and 3600 other points. The 31-year-old Swiss professional, who made his debut at the circuit finale in 2002, has won six Barclays ATP World Tour Finals titles.


Federer began his 2012 season with the Qatar Open but he had withdrawn in the semifinals due to injury. In the 2012 Australian Open, Federer went through the semifinals, where he lost in four tight sets to his arch rival Rafael Nadal. Then he raises his rankings by clinching back-to-back ATP World Tour titles at Rotterdam and Dubai. Federer earned first ranking on 19 August when he won his 21st ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title at Cincinnati, beating No. 2 Djokovic.


2. Novak Djokovic



The second name in “top five tennis players in ATP rankings” is Novak Djokovic. The Serbian international is the first male player who represents his country to win a Major singles title. Djokovic has won five Grand Slam singles titles. He earned three Major titles in last year to become just 6th player in to win three Majors in a calendar year. After qualifying for the French Open final 2012, the 25-year-old became the 9th player in open era who qualified for the final of all 4 Grand Slam singles tournaments.


3. Andy Murray



The Scottish professional tennis player Andy Murray is ranked 3rd in “top five tennis players in ATP rankings” with 8570 points. Murray captured his first major by beating Djokovic in five sets in the final of 2012 US Open. He is the only British male to become a Grand Slam champion during the Open Era. At the 2012 London Olympics, Murray won the gold medal in men’s singles, beating Roger Federer in straight sets.


4. Rafael Nadal



Rafael Nadal ranked No. 4 by the ATP, has been considered as one of the greatest players of all time. Nadal has won 11 Grand Slam singles titles. Rafael Nadal reached through the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in 2010 but lost to Federer. The Spanish international has reached to the circuit finale for 8 consecutive years since 2005.


5. David Ferrer




David Ferrer is also a well-known tennis player who belongs to Spain. He accomplished a number of achievements in his tennis career and draw the attentions of tennis lovers by prodigious performances at 2007 US Open, 2011 Australian Open and 2012 US Open. Ferrer was also a member of the Spain Davis Cup team that won the three finals. David Ferrer earned 5915 points to secure his name in the list of “top five tennis players in ATP rankings.”
