Top Five Most Beautiful Endangered Species

Animals are one of the countless beauties of nature, but thanks to several human activities, drastic changes in climatic conditions and many other factors, many species are in extreme danger and are at the verge of extinction.  Here is a list of top five most beautiful endangered species. Though, WWF is making effort to ensure the survival of these species in future, nothing can be said that for how long they’ll survive.

1. Snow Leopard

Snow leopard is a moderately large wild cat native to the Central Asian mountain ranges. The estimated number of surviving snow leopard is 3,500-7,000 therefore they’re listed as “Endangered” on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Currently, almost 60% of surviving leopards inhibit in China only while the rest of 40% are found in Afghanistan, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Kyrgyz Republic, Nepal, Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan collectively. Hunting, capture and killing for the unlawful wildlife trade market and habitat loss as well as fragmentation are the major threats to the survival of ‘Ghost of the mountains.’

2. Flamingo

Flamingo is a red and pink bird that is currently found throughout South America, the Andes Mountains, Africa, the Caribbean, southern Europe and southern as well as southwest Asia. The number of flamingos is constantly decreasing since they’re dying because of avian cholera, botulism, metal poisoning, pesticides or poisonous bacteria every year. As of 2009, a few species of flamingos are listed as threatened or endangered species by the CITES and IUCN.

3. Giant Panda

This medium-sized bear with a distinctive black-and-white coat is national treasure in China and has been the symbol of WWF since its inception in 1961. Giant panda is one of the most endangered species as the number of living panda is just 1,600 currently of which almost 200 are living in different zoos and breeding centers across the globe. Like all other species listed here, loss of habitat is the major threat to survival of this peaceful creature.

4. Polar Bear

World’s largest terrestrial carnivore, Polar bear is native in the Arctic Circle and its adjacent areas including Newfoundland Island. Currently, there are just 20-25,000 surviving polar bears worldwide, and thus it has been listed as threatened species, with a status of Vulnerable, by the IUCN. Hunting, global warming and environmental pollution are the major threats to the polar bear. In addition, the changes their habitat constantly experience also badly affect their birthing and survival rate.

5. Arowana

Last among the top five most beautiful endangered species is Arowana. Main reason why this beautiful fish is facing extinction is the wreckage of their environment. Moreover, genetic manipulation, selective breeding to produce fish with desired characteristics, is also a threat to the survival of this peaceful specie.
