The Five Types of Ladies Jacket

Wrapping up warm in this bitter Great British weather is top of our priorities, but every fashion conscious lady wants to do so in style! Luckily, even the most practical of garments come in a variety of styles to choose from. Here’s a look at the different types of ladies jackets; whatever your style, whatever the occasion – you’ll find a jacket to match:

Denim

Let’s start with a classic: the denim jacket. This design needs little explanation, owing to the fact it’s truly iconic. When you picture a denim jacket, perhaps it’s the slick styling’s of James Dean that hits you first? Or the image of Kate Moss, who makes denim her staple? Denim jackets have become an affordable high street choice and there are many fits and finishes to choose from: cropped, well-worn, double denim, sleeveless and shirt-style, are just a few examples.

Bomber

Not everyone can pull off a bomber jacket, but when you can it’s a guaranteed head turner. Bomber jackets date back to the military uniform of WWI. These jackets designs were worn by the ‘bomber’ pilots of the Royal Flying Corps. In the 80’s they had their first revival, when durable leathers were swapped for kitsch patterned polyester. In 2013, bomber jackets have returned to a more muted appearance in blacks, grays, nudes and brown. Bomber Jackets are zip-up, puff body jackets with comfortable, baggy sleeves.

Parka

Embrace an element of grunge with a Parka anorak. These classic hooded coats are warm, comfortable and stylish in an understated fashion. In the 1990s they became hugely popular with men, made famous by bands like Oasis and Blur. Now Parka’s have become an essential winter purchase for women too. Parkas are extremely practical, with plenty of pockets and a nice secure zip-up front.

Blazer

When you need an on-trend formal jacket, blazers are the ideal choice. Forget stuffy office-suit jackets, we mean fitted blazer jackets that look just as elegant with a pair of skinny jeans as they do with a maxi dress. There are numerous blazer styles to choose from: peplum, single-button, short sleeve and cropped – is just a handful. Blazers work best in soft cotton or sturdy linen; lined with a silk-like finish to give a sophisticated and event-ready feel. Modern blazers are an extremely versatile item; working as well with jeans and a t-shirt, as with a flowing summer maxi dress.

Leather

Another iconic jacket design is the leather jacket; whether you go for a studded biker coat or a delicate waterfall number – leather is the epitome of cool. Like bomber jackets, leather jackets originated from military designs and have somehow worked their way into the wardrobes of civilians across the globe. Black leather is the obvious choice, but with faux leather quality ever improving, colored leather jackets are also possible. There’s no substitute for real leather though. It’s long-lasting and the smell is unmistakable!

New Look is a retailer of value fashion apparel, the second largest women swear retailer in the UK, with over 1,000 stores worldwide. New Look’s designs range from ladies jackets to men’s onsides.
