Top Five Actors with the Most Awards


While we’re on the subject of films, we have compiled a list of Top Five Actors with the Most Awards. These actors have been ranked according to the number of Oscars each has claimed. In case of equal number of Oscar wins, the total wins decide the spot of an actor on the list. And, the list considers the Oscars won for the acting career only.


5. Dustin Hoffman


Dustin Lee Hoffman is an American actor who proved his iron in all three genres of acting television, film and stage. He is associated with the show-business since last 52 years.  The film which brought him to the heights of fame was The Graduate in which he portrayed as Benjamin Braddock.


Two Academy Awards, five Golden Globes, three Drama Desk Awards, four BAFTAs, an Emmy Award, a Genie Award, and the AFI Life Achievement Award which he claimed so far, are just enough to bring him in the list of top five actors with the most awards. His acting career is still on the go with his last work being a horse-racing drama Luck which was cancelled earlier this year after three horses died while shooting.


4. Tom Hanks


At number four, we have another versatile American celebrity Tom Hanks. Besides being an outstanding actor, Hanks is also a producer, a director and a writer. He incepted his career in year 1979 which is still active with his last film being 30 Rock.


During his career so far, Hanks won several awards including 2 Oscars and sixty-three other wins. Moreover, he has also been nominated for 59 other awards as well which he couldn’t win. His most famous movies include Apollo 13, Big, The Green Mile, That Thing You Do!, You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle and many others.


3. Daniel Day-Lewis


Born as Daniel Michael Blake Day-Lewis on 29th April 1957 in London, Daniel Day-Lewis is an actor with dual nationality-British and Irish. He started his acting career in 1971 with a Drama film Sunday Bloody Sunday when he was just 14. Among a large number of awards Day-Lewis won during his career, the most remarkable are Academy and BAFTA Awards for Best Actor, and Screen Actors’ Guild plus Golden Globe Awards-which he earned for his roles in My Left Foot and There Will Be Blood respectively- and two Oscars. His upcoming movie is Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln which is scheduled to be released on Nov. 16, 2012.


2. Walter Brennan


Born on July 25, 1894, Walter Brennan was an American actor who incepted his career the second quarter of twentieth century. During his 49-year career, he won three Oscars and thus sharing the record of most Oscar wins by a male actor with Jack Nicholson. He passed away on Sept. 21, 1974.

With 3 Oscars, 81 other awards and 57 nominations, Jack Nicholson is taking leading spot on our list of top five actors with the most awards. He is not only an actor, but a producer, film director and a writer too. He started his career in 1958 and is famous for his roles in Easy Rider Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces, Chinatown and Batman,
