Top Five Highest Peaks in the World

The Creator has created countless things to enhance the beauty of nature. One such enhancement tool created by God, which also supports our earth besides adding to its beauty, is the Mountains. There are many smaller and larger mountains in the world. Here, I am going to present some pictures and noteworthy details of the top five highest peaks in the world in this post.  It’s worthwhile to know that eight of the ten highest mountains are housed in Nepal.

1. Mount Everest

Not to mention, almost all of us are familiar with the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. Located in Himalaya’s Mahalangur section, Everest rises almost 8,848 meters above sea-level. The international boundary between Nepal and China runs across the summit point, so it can be said that it exists in Nepal and China. Of several mountaineers tried to clime the Everest, only a few managed to accomplish the task successfully. Many mountaineers have also lost their lives while climbing.

2. K2

It rises around 8,611-meters above sea level and lies in the north-western Karakoram Range at the border between Pakistan and China. The first solemn attempt to climb K2 was made in the year 1902 by Aleister Crowley and Oscar Eckenstein.  Like Everest, this mountain too has claimed several lives. For every four climbers, one has lost life.

3. Kangchenjunga

With peak elevation of 8,586 meters, Kangchenjunga is ranked third on the list of top five highest peaks in the world. It lies in the Himalayas at the border between India and Nepal. Kangchenjunga was ranked the world’ highest peak until 1852, but in 1856 it was moved to the third-highest since various readings and measurements made by the Great Trigonometric Survey of India concluded that Peak XV(present-day  Mount Everest) was the highest.

4. Lhotse

Situated along the China-Nepal border, Lhotse stands 8,516 meters above the sea level. The first recorded attempt to climb this mountain, which is connected to the Mount Everest via South Col, was made by a 7-member expedition headed by Norman Dyhrenfurth in the year 1955.

5. Makalu

Four-faced mountain that’s standing like a pyramid about 19 kilometers to the south-east of Mount Everest, Makalu is last on list of top five highest peaks in the world. This 8,481m high peak is also on the Nepal-China border. The earliest attempt to climb the Makalu was made in 1954 by an expedition, called ‘California Himalayan Expedition to Makalu,’ headed by William Siri.
