Top Five Famous Personalities Who Committed Suicide


Stress, depression, or serious mental despair is such a dangerous thing that can drive you to take some extreme steps such as Suicide. However, the act of committing suicide is unjustifiable anyway. Not only the ordinary people take their own lives to get rid of the problems they’re facing, some famous people too ended their lives by committing suicide. Below given is the list of Top Five Famous Personalities Who Committed Suicide.


 


1. Adolf Hitler


Adolf Hitler doesn’t need any introduction. He was Austrian-born German leader and politician as well as the founder of the Nazi Party. He ruled Germany for almost eleven years from 1934-1945. When the Second World War was going towards conclusion, during the battle of Berlin, Hitler realized that Germany has lost the war. Since losing the war would mean falling prisoner in the hands of Red Army, so, to avoid being captured and imprisoned, Hitler committed suicide along with his wife, to whom he married just two days earlier. The suicide note Hitler left states;


“I myself and my wife – in order to escape the disgrace of deposition or capitulation – choose death. It is our wish to be burnt immediately on the spot where I have carried out the greatest part of my daily work in the course of a twelve years’ service to my people.”


2. Sara Teasdale


Sara Teasdale was a renowned American Poetess. Declining the proposal of a fellow poet who loved her, Vachel Lindsay, Sara wedded a famous businessman Filsinger. However their marriage couldn’t last long because Filsinger was a busy person and his busy routine left the poetess lonely. The “Helen of Troy” writer committed suicide at the age of forty eight. The suicide note she left behind read:


“When I am dead, and over me bright April Shakes out her rain drenched hair, Tho you should lean above me broken hearted, I shall not care. For I shall have peace. As leafey trees are peaceful When rain bends down the bough. And I shall be more silent and cold hearted Than you are now.”


 


3. George Henry Sanders


George Henry Sanders is a renowned name in English entertainment industry. Not only was he an actor but also a singer and songwriter, author and a music composer. He stepped into the film industry in 1936 with the movie Find The Lady. His other famous works also include All About Eve, Rebecca and The George Sanders Mystery Theater. The end of this versatile actor was not good though. He committed suicide at the age of 65, leaving behind a note with his signatures underneath. The note read:


“Dear World, I am leaving you because I am bored. I feel I have lived long enough. I am leaving you with your worries in this sweet cesspool – good luck.”


4. Clara Blandick


Clara Blandick was an American actress who ended her life at 82. It was her prolonged ailment which drove her to take this extreme step. As she mentioned in the note, she had lost the stamina to bear the pain anymore. So, on 15th April, 1962, she committed suicide by stuffing herself with sleeping pills. Her suicide note said:


“I am now about to make the great adventure. I cannot endure this agonizing pain any longer. It is all over my body. Neither can I face the impending blindness. I pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen.”


5. George Eastman


The founder of Eastman Kodak Company as well as the inventor of the 35mm film, George Eastman committed on March 14th, 1932. He was suffering a degenerative disorder, which left him almost paralyze. Intense pain and inability to stand and walk properly made him more and more depressed. So, he finished his life by shooting himself. His short suicide note simply read:


 


“  To my friends: My work is done. Why wait?”
