Top Five Most Famous Authors of All Times


 


In a previous article we talked about top five most read books of all times, this time we have come up with a list of top five most famous authors of all times,whose writing really worth a read. Scroll down to know the top five most famous authors of all times.


1.       William Shakespeare


The English based playwright and poet William Shakespeare definitely doesn’t need any introduction.  Not only he is first on our list of top five most famous authors of all times, but he is regarded as the best author in the English world and is often called the National Poet of England. In his 52-years life-26 April 1564-23 April 1616- Shakespeare wrote many different plays but unfortunately only 38 plays are surviving by now.  His most famous plays include Hamlet, Othello, King Lear and Macbeth. Besides being a prolific scriptwriter, Shakespeare was a great actor too and acted in many plays.


2.       Charles Dickens


On number second we have Charles Dickens, another English author and social critic who is enjoying fame across the globe for some of the world’s most memorable fictional characters even after almost two centuries of his death.  Dickens is considered the most famous novelist of the Victorian period. His most notable works include Oliver Twist, The Pickwick Papers, A Christmas Carol, Bleak House, David Copperfield, Hard Times, Great Expectations and A Tale of Two Cities.  


3.       George Orwell


Born as Eric Arthur Blair, George Orwell is the third greatest author of all times. He was an English novelist, poet, journalist and critic. Moreover, he also wrote fiction. His works which brought to the heights of fame include his dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four and the allegorical tale Animal Farm. He was ranked second among “The 50 greatest British writers since 1945″ by The Times in year 2008. George Orwell was his pen name. He passed away on Jan. 21, 1950.


4.       J.K Rowling


Joanne “Jo” Rowling, commonly known by her pen name J.K Rowling was born on July 31, 1965 in England. She rose to fame by her fantasy series Harry Potter which gained universal attention, claimed several awards, sold over 400 million copies to become the best-selling book series ever.  The British novelist is currently married to anesthetist Nail Murray and they’re parents to one son and two daughters.  Ms. Rowling’s upcoming novel is ‘The Casual Vacancy,’


5.       Virginia Woolf


And, the last on our list of top five most famous authors of all times is Virginia Woolf, another English writer who is branded one of the foremost modernist literary figures of the 20th century. Her most eminent works include Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse and Orlando. She died on March 28th, 1941 at the age of 59.
